Applying for a License

During student teaching, students apply for a Virginia Teaching License. Before student teaching, students must also take and pass the Praxis II test required for the endorsement.

Upon satisfactory completion of degree requirements and the University's approved Teacher Preparation Program, and upon receipt of the required licensure materials, the Virginia State Department of Education will issue a Collegiate Professional License. This license is valid for five years and renewable with additional professional and/or college credit.

Process

The following must be completed and all forms submitted to the Education Department at the completion of your student teaching:

  • VDOE Application Form (Form DA 034)
  • College Verification Form (Form DA 035)
  • Transcript Request for Registrar
  • Praxis II score reports
    When registering for Praxis exams, designate that the score report be sent to the University of Richmond – code 5808
  • Certificate of Completion for Child Abuse & Neglect Training
  • VCLA scores
  • RVE scores for elementary licensure applicants
  • Civics Certification (for elementary and social studies endorsements)
  • CPR certification (must be valid for at least one year from the date submitted)
  • Application Fee (check or money order payable to Treasurer of Virginia; $50 in-state/$75 out-of-state)
