The MATH SCIENCE INVESTIGATORS (MSI): RICHMOND program encourages middle and high school students from Richmond City Public Schools to actively engage with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines.
Our mission is to increase the number of urban students in the STEM pipeline who are preparing to assume responsible roles as math and science professionals.
Our goals are to ensure that students who complete the MSI:RICHMOND program will be prepared to enroll in Advance Placement classes, the International Baccalaurate program, and/or honors courses in math and science, and that these students will show significant gains on pre- and post-test exams during the school year.
We are very proud to be partners with the University of Richmond Department of Education, the Richmond City Public Schools, the MathScience Innovation Center, and the Science Museum of Virginia.
An innovative five-week program offering interactive courses and career workshops in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders from Richmond City Public Schools.
A five-week summer program where rising 10th grade students from Richmond City Public Schools will be mentored by University of Richmond undergraduate students, and assist them in conducting authentic scientific research.
An expansion of the Mentor/Mentee 10th grade Research Program. Promising rising juniors who attended the MSI: RICHMOND Mentor/Mentee 10th grade Research Program in Summer 2012 are eligible to participate in additional scientific research opportunities during the summers of 2013 and 2014 and during the school year.
The MSI Mentor program offers UR undergrads studying math and science the chance to conduct research with support from two tenth grade students from Richmond Public Schools. Application deadline is February 15, 2013.
