Admission to the Teacher Preparation Program

Admission to the Teacher Preparation Program requires the following:

  • A Completed Application Form
  • A Statement of Intent: The written Statement of Intent should describe your reasons for pursuing a minor in education, your educational objectives, and career (or life) plans. Describe also any previous experience working with children or adolescents. Please limit to 1000 words.
  • Read, sign and submit the following forms available from the Department of Education administrative office:
  1. The Professional Behaviors and Dispositions Form
  2. The Guiding Principles and Academic Requirements Form
  • Submit official scores for one of the following tests:
  1. Passing scores on Praxis I Core Academic Skills for Educators with minimum scores of 156 for Reading, 162 for Writing, and 150 for Mathematics. The University of Richmond code is 5808.
  2. A minimum composite score of 24 on the ACT, with a minimum score of 22 on Math and a minimum combined score of 46 on English plus Reading.
  3. A minimum composite score of 1100 on the SAT (provide only if test taken prior to March 1, 2016), with a minimum score of 530 on the verbal test and a minimum of 530 on the mathematics test.
  • Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.70.
  • Read, sign and submit: Memo re: Authorization to use Social Security Number, available from the Department of Education administrative office.

Students formally admitted to the Teacher Preparation Program will receive a letter upon acceptance.

Please note that all applicants are considered for admission to the Teacher Preparation Program on the basis of their qualifications, regardless of sex, race, color, national origin, religion, age, or handicap.
