For University Mentors

The purpose of the mentoring is to maintain the students' interest in academics, in general, and science and mathematics in particular. MSI: Richmond also will show students the many related opportunities and careers that are available and provide them with positive role models. The project requires parents, professionals and teachers to work together to support youth in setting and achieving high career goals.  

Expectations of university mentors:

•    Help students foster a positive self-image
•    Encourage responsible behavior
•    Work toward understanding each student's aspirations, dreams or desires for the future
•    Be an advocate and confidante
•    Encourage to the fullest extent success in academics and personal development
•    Help students establish goals and career options
