University of Richmond

Why Education?

If you’ve chosen to attend the University of Richmond because of the liberal arts experience it offers, you probably already value the close relationships you will be, or already are, developing with faculty members. Most people who choose to become educators, at some point, had a relationship with a teacher or professor that was so positive it inspired them both personally and professionally.

Local and state governments are working hard to provide teachers with the benefits and resources they need to feel valued and appreciated. The need for well-prepared and enthusiastic teachers remains strong across the United States and abroad, and graduates have no shortage of career opportunities.

Richmond education minors are well prepared for the Praxis, the exam students must pass to receive licensure in the state of Virginia and elsewhere. While students can choose to go on and work toward a master’s degree in education, completion of the undergraduate program and appropriate licensure requirements is all that’s required to begin teaching in Virginia.
